About to board the 2nd leg flight of my trip and my Pixel 2XL is bootlooping so here I am setting up to use adb to sideload an OS update while in the air because... ya know... I need my phone working when I land.
-
Good thing I always carry a power pack and all the cables.
-
fffffffffff
-
The real question is: will I be able to download 2gigs via flight wifi....
-
I remember when the operating system for a $5000 computer could fit on a series of floppys.
-
haha, went from 30 min in station to 2 hours on flight wifi. hahaa hahaaa haha hahahahaha ha ha ha
-
Did not patch phone yet, used in-car GPS in the rental, only all the normal routes from the airport were blocked for construction, which it was too dumb to figure out, & the detour signs took us to a cul de sac so it took >30min for <15 min trip from Austin's Airport to the hotel
-
Also... my checked luggage is missing.
-
Ok, checked luggage is supposedly found, driving back to the airport in a bit, and the update is downloaded and the sideload of Android 10 begins.
-
Looks like I'm going to have to factory reset and wipe the phone. Not great when I'm away from home and my backup 2fa device is still at the airport.
-
Factory reset and now the phone has assigned me a random number on a cell network I am not a member of.
-
Got on with Google support, now juggling 2fa via dongle via Yubikey on my laptop and 2fa via Titan bluetooth on my phone to get into my accounts wheeeee. God it would suck if I didn't have the bluetooth option.
-
Had to restart the phone again to get it to not give me the wrong number (hopefully)
-
Honestly wtf Google issuetracker.google.com/issues/140447170
-
Well, at least typing in that random string of numbers and characters lets me swap SIMs again woooo. I guess I'm good, phone is back online it seems.
-
So much for getting anything else done this morning :/
-
Now we'll see if the update makes my phone able to charge USB-C<>USB-C instead of my phone charging my battery a thing that totally makes sense to whoever designed that protocol I guess. If not, I resort to the backup A->C wires.
