October has been a big discovery month for me, so I'm especially excited to see what the month report will look like.
-
Also, I'm sad that Last fm has decided to call it Folk Punk instead of Murderfolk, which is obviously the superior term.
-
Anyway, Every Noise At Once is the coolest tool ever and if you have any interest in getting out of your music comfort zone I highly recommend it and its auto-gen Spotify playlists. everynoise.com/engenremap-folkpunk.html

Also, if you're wondering what the ukulele is, I stumbled into a Gen-Z artists playlist last month and was introduced to mxmtoon, who I highly recommend if you like that sort of music, even though I am an Old in comparison to their normal audience - open.spotify.com/track/2XGKBASAtnQidZcQJdegMt?si=8HyoJVXUTuWVANX5YBZLag

I think my favorite thing about Every Noise At Once is the Mirror feature, where you can see the mirror genre map to the one you are currently looking at. Apparently the mirror of South African Pop is Vintage French Electronic?
-
Also, the highest new song discovery rate since my exploration of Israeli rock in June!

My favorite discovery from last week is: open.spotify.com/track/36TsQkrgaPY1Le2ozgWKAV?si=OX293_vsTZyQ4sxVaNzsAQ

My favorite discovery from last week was this song by Blood Command, a Norwegian band that Norwegian Wikipedia identifies as "Deathpop" and Lastfm calls "post-hardcore/punk". open.spotify.com/track/5jxfh1iITHYXiqXEsLwvzK?si=QrukhXW0QouYtl4o7Nlmsw

I've been particularly intrigued by Luk Thung & while I'm not sure I can do a great job defining it for you, I've definitely developed some tastes preferring some artists over the other. I think this track is, thus far, my fav: open.spotify.com/track/0XouAm93oemdV607wmzdbg?si=_6J8TyZcQ-6tYiEPzU-ecQ

Unlike a lot of the other genres I've stumbled into, Luk Thung actually has a pretty in-depth Wikipedia page which states it is the result of traditional Thai folk being influenced by western electronic and orchestra instruments. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luk_thung
-
It seems like it shares some cultural similarities with American country music including that the accent singers use is a specific non-urban accent.

As always, please correct me if I'm getting any of this wrong! Also a fun entry into my playlists from earlier in this month is Slow Moving Clouds, an Irish Folk band. open.spotify.com/track/6aoYuu7qUttmZ9zmHVMrlH?si=81bkTe7kSi6HpKqyigwAyA
