It is a distribution problem which also has some core blockers in how Google works, but also in how Facebook works and a few other factors. That's a future newsletter. Going into the distribution problem hits an entire other Google monopoly.

noahchestnut joshsternberg Unfortunately more than one thing is broken, but I still say original sin is not caring about ads, it's hard to imagine what an alternate universe where someone like Gannett gave a crap & did something for local digital ads, but I think that would have impacted distribution.

noahchestnut joshsternberg Like we don't really think about how much of optimizing content for platform distribution that disadvantages local news comes out of logic built for international advertising platforms. But these things are def interconnected.
