  1. So the thing I will never understand about micropayments as a strategy is how they constantly push additional cognitive load on readers. Why not move the load to the publications?... jbenton/1137389140901801984

Many publications have had wire services for a long time, why not modify that process to allow aggregators to earn more direct %s of attention they earn distributing to other platforms? Innovate on distribution, which pubs control, instead of consumption, which they don't.

Keep in mind, this is precisely the model Facebook and Google both use to make money off of news. More than that, aggregation applications seem to be using this model pretty effectively. Chronotope/751492106842173440

I dunno, it just doesn't seem like micropayments are going to work out rn for a lot of reasons inc.: how readers interact with the web and how payment technologies work. Perhaps they will at some future point, but the tech, learned behavior & payment doesn't seem to be in place.

If anyone responds to this thread with the word blockchain I'm reaching down through this screen and slapping you. Just getting that out of the way.

Anyway, it would be really cool if we actually evolved syndication technology together towards a model that is a lot more aware of licensing agreements, monetary value and shared analytics. Free biz idea right there.

Anyway, the market is *clearly* interested in this, I'm not sure why we're still using the same RSS spec when it could be evolved to something a lot more aware and useful of modern requirements: Chronotope/751497071203672064

You know what, I'll even give a little shove here: if you are building an open-source spec that evolves RSS beyond just changing it to JSON I'll give you at least an hour of free consultation. DM me.
