        johnwilander it allows them to measure your value as possible subscriber vs the ads you won't see b/c you hit the paywall, to understand if the paywall is well designed (if there's more money to be made on avg prompting for subs vs showing more ads) or if the sub offer should be reformulated.

      johnwilander Also, having worked previously at a place where we had a paywall with ads on it, readers with a high enough frequency to hit the wall are likely to be higher value to advertisers than readers who drive by.

    johnwilander Also, smaller pubs can get locked into contracts that require at least one ad on every page.
