margarita Sadly not surprising! CS education is not problem based and that's a real issue for someone who, perhaps like you, and def like me, is a learner who gets knowledge by applying it. It filters down into tutorials too, where people will record hours of rote-style education.

margarita I find it super frustrating because as a person who writes code for a living I end up having to filter through a lot of search results to find one that is basically like - here are how you use this system like a tool instead of a 'process'. Esp. bad in the React community IMO.

margarita This is *super* frustrating because it used to be that the front end was where new developers could enter the practice, because it was artistic and functional. But now it is deep set of system layers that all have to be decoded and repeated back before you get to Hello World.

margarita WordPress used to be a good place to enter as well, but as it has become more and more like enterprise software the approach they have as a community to bringing people into the community has--as a whole, not every individual--become more CS and less Code is Poetry.

margarita I don't have a great way to articulate why, but for a newbie, the difference between developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/get_metadata/ & codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_metadata is huge. I find it all sort of disappointing b/c I wrote code & still write code to solve problems & tell stories. That's not how it is taught.

margarita Sorry, long rant over! You just hit exactly on the point of my frustration with both the testing tools and the sort of thinking that brings such tools forth >.<
