      1. I am sorta dissatisfied with the existing tooling around 'code test platforms for hiring' so I built my own test instead. I am still not sure code tests are useful tho. It doesn't feel super representative of how people actually work.

This is a general CS education problem, which is there are not a lot of tools to train people who write code in creative thinking or real problem solving and code tests play into that. There are jobs which require neither, just implementers, which is fine, but not what I'm doing.

Before someone says 'but all coders do is solve problems' no they solve equations and fulfill set goals. Problem solving, where you question the premise, investigate, and determine solutions with respect to serving the actual problem has become more project managers' gig.

Not all people who write code need to be creative or problem solvers, that's fine, just, the ecosystem of tools, training, and expectations that is encoded into things like code test platforms looks for implementers when that is not the only type of engineer.
