        nerdette So Star Trek post-TOS films tends to lean into the 'Klingons are brutal warriors, exceptionally strong, brilliant, violent, etc...' Klingons are played by actors of all colors, but typically the makeup is darker (usually because blending the head attachment is easier that way)...

      nerdette So some critics have looked at this and Sci Fi's general tendency to use aliens to stand in for race, class or national groups and Star Trek's particular tendency towards that and wondered if maybe the Klingons in the TNG-Voy period are coded for Black people...

    nerdette But in Discovery, while many of the characteristics of the race are similar, they look significantly less human and their coloring is less like dark human skin and more unreal and varied. So I'm wondering how critics have reacted to this.

      nerdette For the people who had that criticism (which was not uncommon, but also not widespread) Does making them significantly less human-like and eliminating human-style skin color from their makeup address or prevent this criticism?
