      That said, the chance that *someone* will eventually harvest this rich data set after the fact is huge, perhaps it won't be Facebook, but I'd bet it will be used by academic researchers down the line or other smaller platforms.

    Here I think it's important to make users think. I agree with max_read, this isn't something Facebook likely cares much about, but I disagree that it's nonsense. *We* should care about it. So if you're not comfortable with your face training a machine, maybe don't do it.
