jtlff I think somewhere in the chain, most internet advertising has or is influenced by fake numbers. Like, I can build very accurate metrics on open source tech, but if the ad comes in via a third party, they're going to operate their own, multiple, metric vendors, some of whom lie.

jtlff I had it confirmed to me by their own engineer that one of the top viewability companies, at least at the time, was basically making up the numbers. Is every number fake? No. But everything in the ecosystem gets poisoned by it, to the point where uncertainty destroys accuracy.

jtlff And I think that most vendors that sell certainty do so knowing that they cannot provide it.

jtlff Most people in the front lines, like sales, prob don't know. And the ecosystem makes transparency impossible. But I've seen too many "top of the line" metrics providers stumble over basic tracking on real sites to consider most accurate. Some are better than others, some are bad.

jtlff I think the real issue is even if I made perfect analytics, no one would trust them.
