    If your boss ever comes to you and says they want you to build the T Virus: Say No! I didn't think this is something we needed to teach, but I'm starting to think engineers need to take a class on day one where someone explains "Don't engineer 1984"

      I find a good rule of thumb is: never work on building something Tom Cruise once ran away from. If you don't seem to have any internal ethical guide, just ask the question - would a character played by Tom Cruise run away from this? If so, maybe don't start that project.

        My new class proposal for MIT: we watch and read dystopia stories and I pause the screen periodically to point at it and yell "don't do this!" at the students.
