ehhhh. I don't know what qualifies one as a 'business sophisticate' but I feel like I gotta be close, I have technical background, and also like... being involved in a company that sells ads doesn't magically delegitimize me from criticizing Civil.

Also. I've met a bunch of honest blockchain technology experts (few and far between) and none thought Civil was a good idea but that's like a dumb argument to make I don't meed to put up a straw man or knock one down to talk about this.

But hey a journalist who writes an article about how great it is their monetization method is shitty, confusing, bad for connecting with a wide and general audience; and irritating and 'That's The Price of Saving Journalism so love it or you hate journalism' isn't exactly new.

Like PS: also I like Popula's design, like a lot. But other than some mysterious need to prop up the entire concept of blockchain and Civil I really don't see anything that makes them different from previous publications of their type in any way?

I guess the theory is that all the other soft news personal essay sites run by serious journalists in this space, like The Toast, would have been totally successful if only they had blockchain tokens?

It's a real dumb ideological flaw in many journalists that because what they're doing is important and they know it, they assume everyone else knows how important they are & just doesn't understand how to properly compensate them for their greatness. But that *is not* the problem
