            1. The interview Kavanaugh gave seems so obviously foolish. But then you realize this is someone In Power. He was raised for it. He never has been questioned before now. He goes wide because he's never had to conceive a world where anyone can challenge him. washingtonpost.com/investigations/2018/09/25/ea5e50d4-c0eb-11e8-9005-5104e9616c21_story.html

You see, for those of us who didn't grow up Elite, the level of privilege Kavanaugh exists in is almost inconceivable. But he lives in a world where he gets away with everything.

There are also a lot of abstract reasons the GOP is fighting so hard for him, but at a base level they likely realize everyone on their list operates in such a world of significant privilege that anyone they nominate would have their own nasty skeletons they got away with hiding

The Democrats aren't 'playing political hardball' as so many writers accuse them of. They just were voted in (or soon will be) by a generation acutely interested in renegotiating our society's establishment of privilege. This isn't a political game. This is social change.

It's a social change where the kind of people who act as Republican power brokers and elites no longer get to get away with their shitty past crimes, which they did because they knew on some level they could get away with it, just because they were the apparent cream of the crop.

Kavanaugh isn't arguing that he was actually a choir boy, you'd have to be an idiot to believe that at this point. He's arguing that it's his right to retroactively be considered a choir boy because he thinks he has the right to get away free with whatever he did, whatever it was

Kavanaugh went on the news and argued to defend white rich dude privilege. That's what Trump is backing, it's what the GOP is fighting so hard to defend.

That's why it makes sense for Kavanaugh to go wide with good denials. They're fighting for the privilege to get away with anything. Might as well try to get away with everything.

See what I'm saying here is they don't care if he did it because they think he should be able to get away with it. And lo the subtext becomes text NBCPolitics/1044629282415349761?s=19
