amywebb You're missing my argument. Not only is it not just that this does not have to be the way this works. Not only is transparency better. The military has no need to manage those gaps. We can bomb and shoot people just fine without holographic HUDs making it into Call of Duty.

amywebb And these companies are also more international than they were before. They use the US military as a consumer for a product they've proven perfectly willing to sell to our enemies. There's no gap to be managed that Big Tech isn't actively creating.

amywebb Our regular and primary combatants mount guns on the back of flatbed trucks and have trouble keeping a regular supply of clean water. What technological gap do we need to fill exactly? To go to war with an equivalent-tech power would be suicide anyway.

amywebb This is all on behalf of profit. We will never go to war with a nation that could actually match us technologically or come even close. Not in any way that isn't handled through low-tech proxies. This isn't 1940.
