    1. Flipboard's model is obviously really great for Flipboard but it is meh for publishers who have fallen into syndication models based on assumptions about how ad tech should work. But ad tech doesn't need to work that way and there are other models that would be more beneficial.

    Generally speaking, we don't syndicate via Wire anymore. There's really no reason we can't build ad tech that works with syndication and makes publishers money wherever their content appears.

      It baffles me that publishers generally have so little interest in controlling how off-platform monetization works from day one. We've always been saying 'meet your readers where they are'. We should have also been saying 'monetize where your readers are'.

        The model platforms have would be very different if we started with that assumption. A whole alternate reality would have occurred.

          It's very interesting to think about what would have happened to the web if publishers had assumed from day one that all content delivery must include a payload including some way for them to make money.
