          Matt_Kiser Yeah, it makes sense, and I think pubs do tend to consider different ad experiences for subscribers, but there's a big problem which is any ads tend to annoy so Many Ads has the same impact on complaints as Few Ads, so why not? :(

        Matt_Kiser In digital display so many of the incentives are weird and fked up. It's really bad. Programmatic makes it worse, especially in cases like these.

      Matt_Kiser IMO: The question is - are you willing to pay 4x or more of the subscription cost to turn off ads? Would everyone? B/c that's what it would likely take to break even on turning ads off for subscribers at NYT.

    Matt_Kiser All that said, the huge top ad is a shitty annoying ad unit, especially when it isn't a pull down. I blame the arms race for making that slot bigger and more heavily used on Vox digiday.com/media/vox-media-takes-measured-approach-growing-programmatic-marketplace/
