mathewi I mean you've hit a fundamental problem with crypto, there's basically nothing documenting what's going on to the level of a non engineer and that is itself a concern about the stability, transparency and reliability of the whole system...

mathewi There are a bunch of articles out there documenting flaws in the ERC 20 standard that are causing lost tokens, for example, but few that explain the reason and cause in useful detail. This one sorta does it ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/35227/erc223-and-money-loss

mathewi But the wider problem is stemming from this. The token system as Civil proposes to use it is fundamentally untested. Like: I could use a flamethrower to cook burgers, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the first person trying that.

mathewi Especially if the flamethrower is cobbled together by a bunch of people who are explicitly interested in using it to escape regulatory standards on flamethrower systems, you know?

mathewi Another article, though it gets into the weeds, here medium.com/coinmonks/future-proofing-erc20-tokens-7b8c27acedfb - which notes the standard may have already caused a loss of $3 mil.

mathewi And we could also talk about how Civil is forcing publishers into an obligation to a system where the regulatory situation is unclear and developing. What bias is created when you report on tech and gov't both of whom could theoretically turn off your capacity to make a living?
