metaviv I mean, to be clear, I'm not saying that decentralization will make things better. I'm saying that centralization isn't desirable as a goal for the internet or society for reasons that have nothing to do with Infowars' social footprint.
-
metaviv Decentralization will create hubs of shitty people doing shitty things that cause their own problems. I mean, even talking something as dumb as 'forum raids.' But Facebook and Google splitting up the internet into their own fiefdoms presents its own set of really bad problems.
-
metaviv I'm not saying solve the problem by decentralization - I'm saying force Facebook into a public position where it has no choice but to destroy itself as a monopolistic entity or suffer being framed as the villain.
-
metaviv Like a central problem here is that Facebook shouldn't be in the position where it holds all the power because having a single entity hold all the power is intrinsically Really Bad
-
metaviv Like giving everyone power will also cause problems and bad things. I get that. The internet won't turn into some miracle of wonder and candy because we all switch to Mastodon instead of Twitter.
-
metaviv But at the end of the day, centralization and monopoly leads to tyranny. It is inevitable. Our approaches cannot suggest or depend on that.

metaviv (Also, just to be clear I'm definitely not promoting bitcoin as a solution to *anything* involved in actual human finances... or even robot finances)
